With a theme of “Remembering your Roots,” Mellisa has used her success in sport to reach out to Canadians of all ages from coast-to-coast.
Mellisa has used her compelling story of overcoming adversity and accomplishing goals during her Olympic journey while speaking to corporate leaders, community groups and young children. Regardless of the audience, Mellisa’s charm and delivery seamlessly connect themes in sport – remember your roots, the power of plan B, the importance of inches, and the potential of small town kids who have the ability to dream and set goals – with her success in life.
Mellisa is also very active with international charitable organizations. On the heels of winning her 2006 Olympic bronze medal, Mellisa went to Ghana as a Right To Play Ambassador. She is also very active with a local Ronald McDonald House in Red Deer, Alta., which she has very personal ties too.
